Just a quick update on recent events…
Thursday, February 25 was Collegiate Day of Prayer. CDOP is a nationwide effort to simply get people praying for college students around the county. This year the BSU took part by simply asking students to take 5 minutes to pray for Missouri Southern and share it on social media with the hashtag “SouthernDOP.” It was gratifying to see people posting about their prayers and encouraging others to pray as well.

Nathan, Kaitlin, Ruth, Alyvia, Tracy, Lindsay & Grant attended Engage this year, and a good time was had by all!
Another event that recently impacted students was Engage (February 26-28), the Missouri Baptist Convention’s spring leadership development conference for collegians. The conference was held at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and this year seven Southern students attended. While there, they heard challenging messages about what it takes to be a “Change Maker.” Scott Kindig, Matt Kearns and John Mark Yeats were the speakers and they covered a great deal of ground in a short period of time. Change happens whether we like it or not, the question is really how we deal with it. Do we sit idly by and hope for the best, or do we seize opportunities as they come and look for ways to create opportunities that will shape the future? And how does that take place? In addition to great teaching from the main sessions, students also had opportunities to check out more specific topics in breakout sessions, to worship with other collegians from around Missouri and process some of what they were taking in during ample down time built intentionally into the schedule. Overall it was a great weekend.
The next big thing for the BSU will be our trip to Memphis with Crowder College over spring break. We’ll be working with Street Reach, a ministry started out of a local Southern Baptist church there, and we look forward to having some great stories when we get back. Please pray for our trip!
And, finally, for your viewing pleasure… we had a little fun with the Face Swap app after the Saturday night session at Engage. Can you guess who’s who?
