“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Jesus is the reason for Christmas. That’s easy to forget amid all the pomp and finery surrounding His birthday. Lights, packages, parties, parades… it’s amazing how much we add to the simple birth of a child in a stable in Bethlehem two thousand years ago. So this year, take a minute and block out all the hoopla and focus your attention, not on the manger, but on the cross. Jesus came into the world because God loved you. Let that sink in for a minute. God, the author of creation, loved you so much He couldn’t stand the idea of spending eternity without you, so… Jesus. And if you love Him back, don’t buy another present for someone else, don’t hang more lights in the front yard or bake more cookies, instead take a minute to clear your mind and from the depth of your heart tell Him you love Him too. Say thank you. Express your affection for Him who loved you first.
