Last week a group of seven students from the MoSo BSU took advantage of an opportunity to hear David Platt and the Passion Band at Cross Church in Rogers as part of the SNA Experience Tour. The tour is an effort to educate and motivate people to think and live in a more missional manner. As one person said it from the stage, “Weak gospel foundation will lead to weak mission practice.”
“There is only one time that is important–NOW! It is the most important time because it is the only time when we have any power.” Leo Tolstoy
Platt spoke from the book of Acts and focused on the idea that the Church, which is YOU, is simply, “Ordinary people with extraordinary power preaching, praying, giving and suffering,” to the glory of God. He pointed out that the apostles were nothing if not ordinary until they received the Holy Spirit, the same Holy Spirit that lives in every believer. Then we see them preaching, praying, giving and suffering, and as they do the Kingdom of God is advanced as people respond to the gospel. You couldn’t help but smile as he pointed out that the church in Jerusalem was scattered by Saul, who was later send out as a missionary from the church in Antioch which was started by… the people he himself scattered. As Platt put it, “The game is rigged!”
“Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word.” Acts 8:4 (ESV)
The road of life may be long, it may be hard, it will definitely be filled with difficulty and suffering as you make your faith known, but that was always the plan, and the reward is eternal. Let us not be so short-sighted as to cave in to our own personal comfort and leisure at the sake of eternity for those who have not heard the good news of Jesus Christ!
