Mission to Mavuno 4

Wednesday: If you’ve ever avoided a mission trip because you were afraid of the food, this is the trip you should take. We may actually gain weight this week! One of the unexpected blessings we’ve experienced here has been getting to know a woman named Mary who cooks our meals and handles other domestic duties. Last year she had a baby (John) one morning while helping a team like ours and she was back to work before dinner. CRAZY!

Yesterday afternoon our group split up and did some scraping to prepare a paint project, helped install a new water pump for the facilities, made balloon animals and played with the younger kids and joined in a soccer game with the staff and a few locals. As busy as that sounds though, nothing felt rushed. During a team meeting after dinner people shared about how easy it is to see the glory of God reflected in the natural beauty of this place, how eager they are to continue the projects we’ve started and see them finished, and how awed they are by the joy they see in the Tanzanian children.

“I assure you: Whoever does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Luke 18:17.

Just before we called it a day, we captured a chameleon Dan found sleeping on a tree branch near the house in which we’re staying. Needless to say, we had fun trying to feed it crickets and watching it crawl all over people changing colors.
