God’s heart for the nations

Sing to the LORD, all the earth;
Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
Tell of His glory among the nations,
His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.
1 Chronicles 16:23-24

God’s heart for the nations has never been in question. From the promise to bless “all peoples” through Abraham in Genesis to the scene of heaven we glimpse in the Book of Revelation with people “from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues” worshiping, God’s mission has always been to reconcile people to Himself. That’s not too hard to understand. What we seem to miss (a lot) is God’s method for accomplishing the task. Namely, you.

God has a long track record of using people to reach people with the message of salvation. 2 Corinthians 5 records that we have been entrusted with the “ministry of reconciliation” and Jesus commands us to “go, make disciples of all nations” in Matthew 28. So, the next time you’re faced with an opportunity to go on a mission trip or help with VBS at church or even just sit with a stranger at lunch and talk about…life… ask yourself one question: Why not me? There are a million and on answers to that question, but let’s be honest, most of them are just lame excuses. Go.
