I like “good times,” but I fail too often to realize that when I practice pursuing wisdom I get more of them. My tendency is to just relax and hedonistically ride the vibe. But there is another way to live…
Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
What would happen if you woke up each morning and simply asked God for the wisdom to make and pursue wise decisions that day? I imagine that over time you’d get pretty good at doing the right thing. It seemed to work out for Solomon. He wasn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but he led his people into an unprecedented time of peace and prosperity and is widely remembered as the wisest man ever to live.
As long as life is good and things are going our way, we all have a tendency to ride the vibe, to just do what we do to keep it going. The problem with that is that all too often we’re doing it on our own strength and wits instead of really pursuing the wisdom of God.
The secret to a good life is knowing what to avoid. The secret to a great life is knowing what to pursue. The secret to knowing either is asking God for wisdom daily. Don’t just ride the vibe.
