Preach the Word

“Preach the Gospel at all times; if necessary, use words.”

How many times have we used this unfortunate turn of phrase?! The gospel reduced to mere acts of kindness is not the gospel. The gospel, by definition, is the good news about Jesus Christ.. Many religions practice acts of kindness. Even atheists are sometimes caught committing some altruistic act. What distinguishes one from another to the casual observer? Without some sort of further explanation, perhaps nothing. Maybe that’s why the Apostle John wrote, “In the beginning was the Word…” (John 1:1)

Preach the Gospel at all times; and never forget to use words.
