Dead Man’s Curve

I’ve heard people from time to time talk about God and heaven with the idea that somehow He puts all their deeds on a cosmic scale, good on one side and bad on the other. Then He just checks the balance and if there’s more good than bad, you’re all set to go. If that was true, I think I’d be a pretty happy guy. The trouble is, I’ve never seen anything anywhere to support that idea. And, really, I think when it come to such serious matters that there ought to be more than wishful thinking to bank on.

Then again, sometimes I wish God graded on a curve. I mean, honestly, when it comes right down to it, I think I’m a pretty good person. Better than most, in fact. And if God graded on a curve, I’d have to say that I like my chances. Forget about good versus bad, just look at how I stack up against everyone else. I think there’s enough drug dealers, murderers, pimps and prostitutes to pretty well cement my spot on the “God Squad.” But, again, there’s a deafening silence when it comes time to prove this, so it’s kind of a dead man’s curve. Deceptive, deadly and tempting to take at high speed.

Where does that leave me then? How can I get to heaven on more than hearsay? Now that’s a great question. Why not take a little time this week to think it over or better yet, ask someone. It should be a good conversation!
